1.Verse 1

Sanskrit

ॐ अस्य श्रीकालीकवचस्य, नारद ऋषिः। अनुष्टुप्छन्दः। काली देवी देवता।

Hindi Translation

ॐ इस श्रीकालीकवच का ऋषि नारद हैं। छंद अनुष्टुप है। देवी काली इसकी देवता हैं।

English Translation

Om. The seer of this Kali Kavach is Sage Narada. The meter is Anushtubh, and the deity is Goddess Kali.

Explanation

This introductory verse declares the authorship, poetic meter, and the presiding deity of the hymn—Kali.

2.Verse 2

Sanskrit

काली मां मे शिरः पातु, ललाटं कालिका तथा। नेत्रे मे शूलधारिणी, श्रोत्रे चंडिकाश्रया॥

Hindi Translation

काली मां मेरा सिर सुरक्षित रखें, ललाट की रक्षा कालिका करें। नेत्रों की रक्षा शूलधारिणी करें, और कानों की चंडी की शरण में हो।

English Translation

May Mother Kali protect my head, and Kalika guard my forehead. May the Trident-bearer protect my eyes, and Chandika shelter my ears.

3.Verse 3

Sanskrit

नासिकां रक्तनेत्रा च, मुखं मे स्मरतां शिवा। जिव्हां ज्वालामुखी पातु, दन्तान्मे स्मितानना॥

Hindi Translation

नासिका की रक्षा रक्त नेत्रों वाली करें, मुख की शिवा रक्षा करें। जीभ की रक्षा ज्वालामुखी करें और दाँतों की स्मितानना।

English Translation

Let the red-eyed one guard my nose, and Shiva-like Kali protect my mouth. Let Jwalamukhi (Fiery Face) guard my tongue, and the Smiling One my teeth.

Explanation

The devotee seeks Kali’s presence in the facial features, asking for her fierce and kind forms to protect them.

4.Verse 4

Sanskrit

कण्ठं मे कालरात्रिः पातु, स्कन्धौ च मृत्युहरिणी। भुजौ च महिषघ्नी मे, हस्तौ च रक्तलोचना॥

Hindi Translation

गले की रक्षा कालरात्रि करें, कंधों की मृत्युहरिणी करें। भुजाओं की महिषघ्नी और हाथों की रक्तलोचना करें।

English Translation

Let Kalaratri protect my throat, and the destroyer of death guard my shoulders. Let the Slayer of Mahishasura protect my arms, and Red-Eyed Kali protect my hands.

Explanation

Kali is invoked to provide complete physical and spiritual protection to the devotee.

5.Verse 5

Sanskrit

हृदयं च महाकाली, उदरं चंडिका तथा। नाभिं मे च रक्ताक्षी, पृष्ठं मे कालिका सदा॥

Hindi Translation

हृदय की रक्षा महाकाली करें, पेट की चंडी करें। नाभि की रक्षा रक्ताक्षी और पीठ की कालिका करें।

English Translation

Let Mahakali protect my heart, and Chandika guard my stomach. Let Raktaakshi protect my navel, and Kalika always guard my back.

Explanation

Different forms of Kali protect the inner and outer organs of the devotee, offering a full body armor.

6.Verse 6

Sanskrit

कटिं च कामदा पातु, ऊरू मे कालसंहिता। जानुनी च महादेवी, जंघे पातु शिवार्चिता॥

Hindi Translation

कमर की रक्षा कामदा करें, जांघों की कालसंहिता। घुटनों की रक्षा महादेवी करें, पिंडलियों की शिवार्चिता।

English Translation

Let Kamada protect my waist, Kaalasamhita my thighs. Let the Great Goddess guard my knees, and the One worshipped by Shiva my calves.

Explanation

Even the lower parts of the body are blessed with Kali’s protection, acknowledging her omnipresence.

7.Verse 7

Sanskrit

गुल्फौ च कालिनी पातु, पादौ पातु सुरार्चिता। सर्वाङ्गं मे सदा पातु, दुर्गा दुर्गार्तिनाशिनी॥

Hindi Translation

एड़ी की रक्षा कालिनी करें, पैरों की सुरों द्वारा पूजित करें। सम्पूर्ण शरीर की रक्षा दुर्गा करें, जो दुःखों का नाश करती हैं।

English Translation

Let Kalini guard my ankles, and the Goddess worshipped by the gods protect my feet. May Durga, the destroyer of all hardships, always protect my entire body.

Explanation

The devotee offers full surrender to Durga-Kali, trusting in her divine armor to protect the whole being.
