1.Verse 1

Sanskrit

ॐ काली काली महाकाली कालिका परमेश्वरी । सर्वान्नारी महारौद्री सर्वबीजस्वरूपिणी ॥१॥

Hindi Translation

ॐ काली काली महाकाली, कालिका परमेश्वरी। सर्व नारी, महा रौद्री, सर्व बीज स्वरूपिणी॥१॥

English Translation

Om Kali, Kali, Mahakali, Kalika the Supreme Goddess, Embodiment of all women, fiercely powerful, source of all seed-mantras.

Explanation

This verse invokes Goddess Kali in her supreme forms — Kali, Mahakali, Kalika. She is the embodiment of all women, the fiercest of forms, and the source of all creation (seed-syllables or 'Bija').

2.Verse 2

Sanskrit

दाक्षायणी महाभीमा महागोरपराक्रमा । सर्वरक्षास्वरूपा त्वं सर्वमङ्गलमङ्गला ॥२॥

Hindi Translation

दाक्षायणी महाभीमा, महा गोर पराक्रमा। सर्व रक्षा स्वरूपा तुम, सर्व मंगलों की मंगलाः॥२॥

English Translation

You are Dakshayani, immensely terrifying, of mighty and fearsome valor, Embodiment of all protection, the most auspicious among all that is auspicious.

Explanation

This verse describes Kali as Dakshayani (form of Sati), who possesses tremendous, fearsome power. She is the protector of all beings and the ultimate form of auspiciousness.

3.Verse 3

Sanskrit

भीमदेवी महारात्रि चण्डिका चण्डनायिका । कात्यायनी महादेवी नरा नारायणार्चिता ॥३॥

Hindi Translation

भीम देवी, महा रात्रि, चण्डिका, चण्डनायिका। कात्यायनी महा देवी, नर-नारायण द्वारा पूजिता॥३॥

English Translation

You are Bhima Devi, the great Night, Chandika, the leader of fierce ones, Katyayani, the great Goddess, worshipped by Nar and Narayana.

Explanation

The verse praises Kali in her terrifying and warrior aspects — as Bhima Devi and Chandika. She is worshipped by divine sages Nar and Narayana, and manifests during the cosmic night.

4.Verse 4

Sanskrit

इदं स्तोत्रं पठेद्भक्त्या नित्यं काल्याः समर्पयेत् । सर्वसिद्धिकरं पुण्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम् ॥४॥

Hindi Translation

यह स्तोत्र जो भक्तिपूर्वक प्रतिदिन काली को अर्पण कर पढ़े, वह सभी सिद्धियाँ प्राप्त करता है, पुण्य फल देता है, और सारे पाप नष्ट करता है॥४॥

English Translation

He who recites this hymn with devotion and offers it daily to Kali, Will gain all accomplishments, earn great merit, and destroy all sins.

Explanation

This verse extols the benefits of reciting the stotram — promising spiritual success, merit, and freedom from sin for those who offer it with sincerity to Goddess Kali.

Important Notes

Recommended Practice: Frequency: Daily or on Amavasya (new moon) nights, Time: Midnight or during Kali Puja, Offering: Red hibiscus flowers, black sesame, incense, and deep (lamp). This is a simplified form of Mahakali Stotram. Variations exist across traditions and manuscripts.
